6. More Exotic Locations

A far more interesting rumour, surrounds the idea of taking GTA far away from the humdrum city locales we all know so well - instead transporting it far away to a completely different place entirely.

Rockstar have spoke about attempting a version of GTA set in Tokyo, Sleeping Dogs-style, but confessed that its intricate road systems and general layout wouldn't suit the gameplay of Grand Theft Auto. This then led to a ton of outlets discussing Rio de Janeiro as a more "exotic" location, being you'd get the intensity of trading gunfire amongst the favelas, before travelling outside the city to get lost on wide-open dirt roads, and fields peppered with smaller townships.

It does make some sense, being the moment in San Andreas where we first left Los Santos and explored the Back O' Beyond is one of the most revered by fans, and Rockstar already have experience crafting levels set in Rio, thanks to their spectacular work on Max Payne 3.
