GTA 6: 10 Things It Must Do BETTER Than 5
6. Mission Design Needs To Play To The Game Engine's Strengths
Another point about missions: Which ones from GTA V did you actually enjoy playing? Things like jumping a dirt bike onto a train as Trevor should've been great, but you were probably more worried about the physics bugging out and waiting for the cutscene to kick in, than anything routed in the action itself.
Other missions like the Humane Labs stealth infiltration, however, felt like they were playing to the game engine's strengths - those being gunplay and a methodical pace to the level itself. Headshots felt satisfying and the cover system worked in tandem with some ace corridor sections, all wrapped in the guise of slinking around undetected.
Contrast it to the Madd Dogg's Rhymes mansion infiltration from San Andreas, and you'll see how far Rockstar have come.
However, the latter is a drop in the bucket when compared to the majority of missions being "drive here/shoot thing/drive back" - all the while the most work is put into character dialogue.
