The wait for Grand Theft Auto VI has been agonising. Even though it's easy to forget considering the fifth title is still selling ridiculously well, and hasn't really left the conversation thanks to GTA Online, it's been nearly six years since the last game dropped. Even for Rockstar, that's a long time between instalments, even taking into account that they did ship Red Dead Redemption 2 in that time. And with no announcement looking imminent, fans have been left to speculate just what form the inevitable next entry in the franchise is going to take.

Unsurprisingly, there have been so many apparent leaks and rumours doing the rounds over the years, ranging from the convincing and reliable to the outright outrageous. With so little officially to go on, fans have interrogated every sliver of information they've been able to gets their hands on, and some of the rumours do paint a surprisingly compelling picture of what GTA VI could end up being.

Others, however, are enough to spark fear about the franchise as a whole. Rumours that, if true, could take the world-conquering series down the point of no return, or removing the hyperbole for a moment, at least result in a game that doesn't live up to over six years' worth of fan expectation.
