To all but the most dedicated gamers, headsets can be a little off-putting. Stigmatised by the notion of 12 year old American kids throwing homophobic and racial slurs across the planet, and wheeling out terms that nobody but them understand in the first place, it's understandable that other players will have elected to skip this particular type of interaction in the past. But in GTA V Online, and especially in the heists, communication really is the key. Once you've amassed a group of other players you can trust enough to approach the job the way you want it approached, all that can really fall apart is the execution. A quick chat before-hand can get everyone on the same page, a confirmation that it's ok to pull the trigger can prevent an alarm going off, and set of better placed eyes can keep the rest of the crew from walking headfirst into a disaster. Some missions require as much precision in the timing as they do anything else, and without the ability to co-ordinate with another player you're leaving some critical elements down to chance. Plus it's your one opportunity to shout instructions at real people as they race away from the police and steal fighter jets.
