GTA V: 10 Awkward Features That Need Improving

9. Friends

When I first started playing GTA IV, I was enthralled by the friend system. I wouldn€™t wait for Roman to call me; I€™d be calling him any time day or night, insistent that he get wasted with me at the local bar. But as I played further through the game, as I started getting to the really entertaining missions, these friend excursions started to feel more and more like an unnecessary distraction as opposed to what they were intended to be: a method of immersion. The problem I had was that once you€™d been out with all of the possible friends two or three times, you€™d done everything. And once you€™d made best friends of everyone and unlocked their special ability well€ I mean, did anyone ever call Roman for a Taxi ride? What€™s the point? Not only are you surrounded by stealable vehicles, you€™re also surrounded by cabs which by about fifteen minutes into the game, don€™t really ever affect your bankroll. I do like the idea of having €˜friends€™ in the GTA universe, I just think they need to have a little bit more of a point. Perhaps in GTA V, you can not only go out with one friend, but groups of friends, who all interact with each other. Perhaps instead of just drinking, you can cause barfights. Perhaps when you€™re up to a certain standing with these friends, you can choose to bring them on missions with you as back up. I don€™t know, I€™m not a game developer; all I know is, friends quickly became tiresome in GTA IV and if they€™re to be included in V, R* need to make some serious upgrades to the system.
