2. Jack Thompson
There was a time when the go to panto villain in the video game world was Jack Thompson, a former layer who made it his lifes mission to close down the video game industry. Blaming video games for destroying our youth, number one on his hit list was Rockstar and Grand Theft Auto. He claimed teenagers were using it as a murder simulator. After a number of failed court proceedings against Rockstar and publisher Take Two, in 2007 Thompson was prohibited from practicing as a lawyer by the Florida Bar because of professional misconduct. Since then, Thompson has been pretty quiet apart from another unsuccessful lawsuit in 2009 against Facebook, where he wanted $40 million in damages because Facebook failed to remove angry posts about him. So to everyones delight, Jack Thompson sent an angry email to Lance Liebl of Gamezone.com after Liebl dared to discredit news reports linking the Navy Yard shooting in Washington and video games. Thompson wrote;
"You have no earthly idea what you are talking about because you make your living pimping for this industry. Gamers are too brain-impaired to get it,"
After Gamezone said that resorting to calling gamers names might not be the best way to get his point across, he replied;
"They should be insulted, just as Jesus insulted the Pharisees. The problem with gamers is that their addiction has made them retarded. Have a nice and stupid day."
But he didnt stop there;
"Enjoy killing people. And you aren't killing virtual people. You are killing real people. You are an apologist for an industry that knowingly trains people how to kill and to want to kill. Blood is on your hands. Losing a law license is a very small price to pay in order to stand against this evil. I would be delighted to lose it again, because a**holes like you, who don't care about anything other than their own fun, spit in the face not just of innocent people but in the face of God. You are presently spiritually dead. If you awaken, great. Until then, I have work to do so stop bothering me, you idiot."
