4. Graphics Aren't Everything

That said, it's easy to forget that no matter how good a game looks, the visuals aren't everything, especially without a firm base, as is something fans of these sorts of games often seem to forget. However, one can recall how within hours of San Andreas and GTAIV being released, fans were flooding message boards with complaints about how there was too much pop-in, or too many vehicles had jagged edges. Gamers can be a fickle, even childish bunch, so while Rockstar have obviously put a lot of effort into making GTAV look as visually robust as possible, it's not the be-all and end-all, given that people are going to pick it apart regardless. We can name countless examples of games that are gorgeous to behold but absolutely lacking in the gameplay department, and while we hardly expect Rockstar to drop the ball here, it is a valid point. It would be so easy for the developers to get complacent, what with their immaculate track record and consistent critical acclaim, but as long as Rockstar don't forget their end game - and going from that short teaser trailer, it doesn't look like they have - then we will be able to rest easy.
