10 Things That Almost Completely Changed GTA History

5. Eminem Almost Starred In A GTA Movie

Almost every year someone rolls out the talk of a new GTA movie being in the works, and while we're all smart enough now to take every rumour and snippet of intent with a massive pinch of salt, it seems that one major studio almost made the film a reality. According to Variety the GTA flick was basically a "done deal," with rap star Eminem possibly lined up to star, before it all fell apart at the last minute, because Take 2 couldn't finalize terms with the studio, whether for financial reasons, or concerns over handing over rights. Though a GTA movie seems to make sense, mostly thanks to the cinematic nature of the games, this one should be counted as a good thing. It's not just that Eminem might struggle in the lead (he definitely would, no matter how much you might love 8 Mile,) but the form of video game movies suggests the film would tank. We'd have ended up with a massive blot on GTA's copy-book, which would have been hard to ignore even with the continued brilliance of the games. If you consider how massive the GTA IV problems were amplified, a poor movie adaptation would have spelled a marketing disaster for Rockstar, which could well be one of the reasons they decided not to go ahead. Having said that, it would be foolish to think the film won't happen at some point. Let's just hope it won't star Eminem.
