GTA V: 5 Reasons Why It's Every Mother's Nightmare This Christmas

3. The Dubious Attitude Towards Women

The Grand Theft Auto series has a list of controversies as long as your arm, and a recent criticism of the sandbox title is its sexist and misogynistic attitudes towards women. The lack of female NPCs during missions, undisguised misogynistic messages on the radio, depiction of females in the storyline and glorification of strippers and prostitutes has led some to believe GTA V is sexist. Indeed, the argument that the latest Grand Theft Auto game has dubious attitudes towards women is a strong one, particularly when you look at the facts. There is no strong female role in the game and, despite there being three playable characters, all are male, which has resulted in questions being raised about Rockstar's attitude toward women recently. Reviewer Carolyn Petit wrote that GTA V is "politically muddled and profoundly misogynistic", and went further by adding:
"GTA V has little room for women except to portray them as strippers, prostitutes, long-suffering wives, humourless girlfriends and goofy, new-age feminists we€™re meant to laugh at.€
It is perhaps understandable then that mothers don't want their children to play a game that gives out such a bad influence when it comes to some of today's biggest societal issues.
