GTA V: 5 Reasons Why It's More Than Worth The Wait

4. Multiple Protagonists And The Story

One of the most intriguing new features of GTA V is the ability to play as three different characters, all with different personalities and traits, in the same story. GTA IV sort of acts a precursor to this, but obviously the idea of all three stories and characters intertwining is something that has never been attempted before and I am anxious to see whether Rockstar can pull it off. I believe they can. When the idea of multiple protagonists first surfaced, many fans were skeptical. But there are so many possibilities for this, especially if the player has the chance to replay missions (I believe they will, as it was present in GTA IV: The Ballad of Gay Tony). Rockstar has already said that missions, particularly the heists which the story centres around, can be played differently depending on what character you want to use. For example, whilst you are playing as Michael and are breaking into the building, Franklin can be the sniper from afar. Replay the mission, or switch during it, and you can swap roles. That is all speculation, of course, but it's an exciting prospect, isn't it? The idea of a linear narrative for three different characters expands the game far further than it ever would if it was centred around one singular protagonist. From what we already know, Michael is living a rich, expensive lifestyle after a life of crime and in contrast to that, Trevor is lives alone in a trailer in Blaine County and has a drug addiction. How different can those two characters get? It already felt like you were playing a completely different game whether you were playing as Luis, Niko or Johnny in GTA IV, but this takes it to a whole other level. There is not too much that is known about the story itself yet, but if it follows on from the fantastic stories in GTA IV or John Marston's in Red Dead Redemption, then we're in for a treat. It's already a very positive sign that, as I have already mentioned above, the game will be about heists. Remember the heist mission, Three Leaf Clover, in GTA IV? You know, the most exciting and intense mission in the game? That's the potential that several missions in V have.
