6. Double Lives
Upon repeatedly watching, analysing and researching GTA's second trailer, I had a thought about a potential theme for GTA's actual story. We know the Michael is an ex-career crook turned states evidence for the FIB and we also know that Franklin is an ex-gangster/ current repo-man for a luxury car company. Both men have checkered pasts, both are clearly bored with their new clean lifestyle and both have better halves who seem to tenuously anchor them to their choice to behave for once. The only one of the three without a reason to tone back the insanity seems to be Trevor. Listen to the selection of music in GTA V's second trailer; Skeletons in Your Closet by Stevie Wonder, a song about duality, about pretending to be one kind of person while secretly being entirely another. http://youtu.be/RX_v0yz7Ebo So, I'm thinking that GTA V's story will most likely play with this concept of duality, with this idea that while we're out causing carnage, there are characters (Michael's wife, or Franklin's girlfriend for example) who believe that we're simply out running a morning errand, or at least want to believe that. Previous games have brushed upon this idea, but never really taken it by the horns as a heavily featured narrative device. There's a first time for everything though!
