20. Smartphone
From the beginning, Grand Theft Auto has kept us connected to our various mob bosses, drug dealers, crooked cops, and other ne'er-do-wells with technology. We started with the humble pager and eventually moved up to a cell phone. Judging from the trailer, GTA V is set in the present day, so why not take another step forward and equip our protagonist with a smartphone? Here's how I imagine this working: the smartphone functions similarly to the one from GTA V - press up" and the phone appears, allowing you to choose contacts to call or a dialpad to manually enter a number. Nothing new, but fancier-looking. But what if the smartphone now also functions as the Pause Screen? Press start" and your view turns to the landscape profile of the phone, taking up nearly the entire screen. From here, you see the traditional Pause Screen options: Map, Stats, Audio, etc., but they now operate as apps" that are launched on the phone. Map", for instance, will launch a Google Maps-like app that functions the same as previous GTA Map screens. This new map feature could potentially replace the traditional radar weve been familiar with. You can also access email, text and voice messages, and browse the web from your phone, instead of logging into some archaic desktop computer at an internet café. There's really a whole slew of possibilities, some of which may be illuminated as we continue down the list.
