8. You'll Play As A Cop
I've
previously mused about how much I'd like to see a filthy-corrupt cop character in a GTA game. With the series' recent return to more comical form, I'd envision him as a Woody Harrelson type from Rampart, or perhaps - more audaciously - a Nicholas Cage from the Bad Lieutenant type (rather than Harvey Keitel's gritty take on the character). It looks like - to some extent - this fantasy may come true, as one of the rumours swirling around GTA VI is that one of the main characters will be a cop. What little has been said about it suggests that this character would be a bonafide good guy - which would be the first time a GTA game didn't cast you as a criminal. This would fit loosely with the idea of GTA VI featuring a descendant of John Marston. Marston wanted nothing more than for his progeny to lead a different life to the criminal one he had. By the end of the game, Marston earns his 'Redemption', and it'd be a satisfying pay-off to see that generations down the line his progeny is working on the right side of the law. The idea of play a non-perp is an interesting one. If GTA 6 chooses to have more than one playable character, then it'd be great to play as both a cop and a criminal, with the story arcs of the two (or more) characters set on a deadly collision course with each other - with only one possible victor. Or why not have a good cop get embroiled in the criminal underworld, with the player having to decide how corrupt they get? Whichever way it goes, the introduction of a character working on the other side of the law would open up some refreshing narrative possibilities.
