GTA VI: 10 Things It Must Learn From Sleeping Dogs

7. Vicious Melee Combat

GTA's melee combat has never been anything to write home about - in fact chances are the only decent showdown you've ever had with someone was at the close of one of GTA IV's opening missions, where you punch a guy so hard he flies out a window into the harbour. A huge missed opportunity in V was to vary up things like the way the three characters threw their punches - or in particular the counter animation; which is always the same "duck and one-two punch" every time. In future if we're going to see a continuation of this multi-protagonist approach, make each one feel distinguishable outside their voice actor and walking animation. In addition, although the kung fu movie-style brawls in Sleeping Dogs may be a little too much to carry over into VI (unless our hero has hit the gym/dojo before the game), it would be a hugely welcome addition to suddenly have the ability to counter effectively, land solid punches, grapple and throw people etc. - especially when the physics of GTA would allow for some fantastic gameplay when you combine them all together.
