Hades: 10 Reasons You MUST Play Supergiant's New Rogue-Like
9. The Story
The way this game justifies the repeated deaths of its character is just one of the reasons the story in Hades trumps many others in its field, allowing for story progression even if the gameplay itself is in many ways, repetitive.
In some ways, dying early before finishing the run can be a boon, given that it allows story beats that began at the house to continue the moment you die and go back.
The plot of Hades is simple enough, with protagonist Zagreus searching for something on the surface while his father, Hades himself, insists that "there is no escape". What sets this story apart from its lessers is how characters and relationships keep the player deeply invested, and the way the gameplay loop weaves them seamlessly into each other. Many of Hades' side quests give Zagreus the option to help reunite, free, or otherwise assist the many friends he meets along the way even as they assist - or obstruct - him in his mission to get to the surface.
Hades' story will keep you playing even long after the credits roll, and maybe even incentivize starting entirely new games just to get all the story you missed.
