Halo 4 - Campaign and Multiplayer Hands On

Multi-Player We also got a chance to try out several Multi-player maps and modes during our time with the game, first of which was Spartan Ops. The best way to describe Spartan ops is as a series of co-op missions you take on as a squad. You're dropped into a large open map with several vehicles and weapons, given opjectives to complete and tasked with how quickly you can get the job done. Frank O'Connor described tham as €œa TV show you can play€ as they are fairly short missions of €œepisodes€ which will be released on a weekly basis and will appear on your dashboard when available. The first two Spartan Op's missions both felt like they were set in too large a map to begin with. If you did you can find yourself re spawning quite a long way from the action and will have to travel back across the map. However, once you complete your primary objectives both missions started throwing enemies at you to prevent you returning to base which improved the issues of things feeling too spread out. All in all I get the sense that Spartan ops has potential to keep people coming back, but the first few missions may not be enough to sell people on it. We shall see how the other missions shape up before prematurely judging the mode too harshly. Next up was Slayer, the series traditional multi-player deathmatch. It's much as you would expect from Halo, lots of fast paced running and gunning, using powerups and vehicles to try and rack up as many kills as possible. It's the same Halo multi-player fans have grown to love, just with new weapons and environments to explore. We then got to experience a new capture the flag mode, in which you have to carry a large, visible and heavy flag from your opponents base to your own. Once you pick up the flag you have to carry it, slowing you down, preventing you from sprinting, limiting you to firing a pistol and generally painting a huge target on you. Put simply, you won't be getting that flag back to your base without your teams help. If you try, chances are you won't be getting very far. Last up was our opportunity to try the new Dominion mode. In the map we played their were three bases, and you rack up points by being in control of the bases. You have to run into the base and stay there for a set amount of time taking control. Once you have controlled a base for 40 seconds it will start to fortify itself, gaining massive automatic machine gun turrets. Once you have had it a little longer, you will start receiving ammo and grenade drops amongst other things. It's a very tense game mode that has you constantly bouncing around the map trying to keep control of your own bases while infiltrating enemy based before they become too heavily fortified. It made for a great competitive atmosphere and see this being the mode I come back to most with the finished product. All in all I had a great time with Halo 4 and any doubts I had about 343 and their ability to carry on Master Chiefs journey have been blown out the water. It's still the Halo you expect, but it feels new, fresh and exciting. What do you think? Are you excited to play Halo 4? Do you have any story predictions? Do you have any questions you would love to ask Frank O'Connor if you had the chance? Let us know in the comments below.
