5. Memorable Characters
With 'Sergeant Johnson', '343 Guilty Spark' and - most recently - even 'Cortana' being killed off, many fan-favourites have disappeared from the Halo games, leaving us alone with Master Chief. We do not know whether or not Cortana will return, though it is still possible that she will not. The reason that said characters were favourites was because they were memorable, becoming memorable not only because they survived throughout several Halo instalments but also because of their personalities. Thanks to Master Chief's reputation increasing with every game, we meet more and more characters that just either seem to love or hate our protagonist. This offers little variety in terms of character personalities, which was why Johnson and Guilty Spark stood out amongst the rest - they didn't consistently praise or condemn Master Chief. Such characters were likeable due to the humour that was incorporated into their dialogue, possible due to the fact they saw our protagonist more as a friend - which is arguable in the case of Guilty Spark - than a superior. The 'Spartans' introduced in both Halo: Reach and Halo 4 were fairly cliché - though not in a humorous manner - their dialogue being reasonably predictable and flat. Though they shouldn't attempt to recreate another 'Johnson' personality, it would be nice to see another, more original character that we are able to connect to and care for - preferably before they are killed off within the same game they are introduced. The reintroduction of the 'Arbiter' is also be something many fans would be guaranteed to appreciate, the character having been greatly missed since Halo 3.
