Halo 5: Guardians - 10 Essential Tips & Tricks You Need To Know

7. Don't Melee Unless You Absolutely Have To

Another thing that you'll mistakenly use too much are the melee attacks, mostly because in the older Halos they were a surefire way to come out on top in any exchange. You'd butt heads with someone, start firing when running forward and whoever could jab the melee button fast enough would come out on top. That's not the case any more, as the balance has been redressed to account for gunfire to do the most damage. Melee will still pop a shield if you're close enough, but that same reduced proximity means ANY shots to yourself will do way more damage. Put simply, you'll end up dead before you can even swing the punch - providing whoever's taking the shots isn't missing, of course. Rewire your brain to only either melee from behind (assassinations are a luxury afforded to those with nobody in the same map quadrant), or punching face-to-face if you can guarantee the hit is going to finish them off.
