Halo: Ranking Every Game From Worst To Best

1. Halo: Reach

Halo Games
Bungie

Prequels can be a tricky thing to be sure. And yes, Halo: Reach may have contradicted what was established in the Halo books in regards to the circumstances surrounding the fall of the planet Reach, but the series was absolutely better off for it.

Of all the Halo games, Reach's campaign is easily the most emotionally investing. Despite the fact that you know full well how the story ends going in, you can't help but suspend your disbelief and root for Noble Team with every fiber of your being.

Throughout the campaign, which gave players some fantastic variety and introduced all-new mechanics, you saw your allies be picked off one by one until finally, the playable protagonist, Noble Six, is the only one left. And all you can do is wait for his inevitable demise following his last-ditch effort to give humanity a fighting chance. It's a story that not only hits you emotionally, but gives Master Chief's ultimate victory over the Covenant so much more meaning.

To make one last Star Wars comparison, this was Halo's Rogue One.

On the lighter side of things, Halo: Reach's multiplayer was also the best the series had to offer up until that point, after years of it being tweaked and tuned to perfection. This, combined with the fantastic story, proved that Microsoft hadn't lost track of what made Halo great and were still ahead of the curve.

This was Bungie's very last Halo game and, frankly, there is no possible better way they could have gone out.
