13. Kingdom Hearts 3
Speaking of style over substance, Kingdom Hearts has long struggled to implement a combat model that makes you feel visually rewarded and mechanically satisfied in equal measure. KH3 is no different, doubling down on graphical presentation, Disney easter eggs and gorgeous graphics, rather than action where you're controlling every last thing on screen.
For the most part, it works. Things like the Disneyland pirate ship being a "summon" raises a smile, while triggering OTT energy blasts from your Toy Story/Hercules/property-themed Keyblade is fun incarnate. Yes, there's a sensation of all-things Disney being strewn across the screen, and in the Toy Story segment in particular one boss battle had Sora and co. leaping between different mechs, letting gameplay shift between first-person shooting and third-person action.
Together it highlighted the potential for KH3 to have greater gameplay variety and differing approaches to combat overall, but at this stage, we'll have to wait and see.
