Have Poor Sales Killed The RED FACTION Franchise?

THQ reveal they have no immediate future plans for the series after the incredibly poor sales performance of Red Faction: Armageddon.

THQ yesterday announced they have no immediate future plans for the Red Faction series after the incredibly poor sales performance of Red Faction: Armageddon. Curiously, no actual sales figures from the game have been made public but we do know it attributed to THQ's whopping $38.4 million loss during the quarter. Here is the exact quote from THQ CEO Brian Farrell during the company's fiscal earnings call;
"We do not intend to carry forward with that franchise in any meaningful way," .
THQ later stated that the series has not been killed off just that "no current plans for the franchise at this time" and that developer Volition is now working on their next project, Insane. A lot of loyal fans were disappointed with this summer's Red Faction: Armageddon and bad reviews/word of mouth clearly lead to the poor sales figures for the game. However, personally I believe THQ brought this on themselves by releasing the game on the exact same day as Infamous 2. When are developers going to learn that releasing two highly anticipated and notable games on the very same day usually ends badly for one of the games sales wise? It's not like there are not enough days in the year to find a good release date where no other game is being released. Did anyone out there enjoy the new direction Red Faction: Armageddon took?
