How Bethesda Should Make The Elder Scrolls VI
3. Overhaul The Magic System
Skyrim's magic system was all neat and streamlined, but many fans felt it was a step backwards from older games Morrowind and Oblivion, which tied things like spell duration and range to magicka cost.
This was a more flexible system that gave players greater freedom when it came to shaping their magical capabilities, and it helped them progress to casting more powerful spells in a smoother fashion.
Switching to a revamped version of the older system would be a good start, but magic in general is something Elder Scrolls VI should completely overhaul. Everything bar Master-level Destruction spells go off with more of a whimper than a bang in Skyrim, and many of these are only of niche use and difficult to obtain.
The next instalment should right this with an all-new range of spells that really pack a punch when you've invested time into developing them, and ones which are generally more useful in a wider range of scenarios.
