Infamous: Second Son - 7 Reasons It's Sadly Not A System Seller

1. The Story Is Underwhelming

InFAMOUS 1 and 2 told an awesome tale of an average guy who gets super powers. It€™s an epic story of friendship, betrayal, alternate time lines, time travel, parallel universes, unexpected shocking twists in the narrative and ultimately a self-sacrifice that saves the whole world from being destroyed by a large beast; an enemy whom Cole has been training for years to gain the powers to defeat. Second Son on the other hand tells the story of Delsin Rowe, whose entire arc is getting powers from Seattle to remove some material from his wounded friends following a stabbing. That is genuinely almost it. It€™s just so underwhelming and disappointing in comparison to Cole€™s adventures which could have led to the whole human race being wiped out. Whilst in the first hour or two the story starts off strong seeming to be both engaging and interesting, it kind of fades out and the narrative becomes less of a focus, highlighted by how the majority of the game's cutscenes are probably in that compelling first opening hour. The relationship between Delsin and his brother Reggie is sort of well done but it pales in comparison to the dream team of Cole and Zeke. As a result a moment that happens towards the end of the game has nowhere near the emotional significance it probably should have because players have had barely any time to really get to know these characters and bond with them. Also many inFAMOUS fans will be disappointed that there is barely any mention of the events from the previous games outside of the preorder-only downloadable €˜Cole€™s Legacy€™. It would have made the story so much more rewarding if there had been a cameo from Zeke or anyone from the other games as they were all genuinely more interesting characters than the ensemble cast from Second Son. InFAMOUS Second Son is still an enjoyable game that is visually jaw-dropping, and thought it may not be a system seller, credit goes to the developers that despite its many flaws it is still a damn good game. It€™s just a real shame that it clearly had the potential to be truly amazing and unfortunately that€™s why it has left some fans underwhelmed. Did you enjoy inFAMOUS Second Son?
