Injustice 2 Explained: What Does The Ending Really Mean?
2. A True Leader Serves His People
It's hard to wrap your head around the fact that Gorilla Grodd is one of the main villains in the game, yet here he is, leading The Society (Cheetah, Poison Ivy, Scarecrow, etc.). He's also Brainiacs closest associate and right-hand man. He might not be the smartest character, but is definitely the most ruthless, as he's willing to sacrifice his own people, providing he's able to survive.
He treats other gorillas instrumentally, which earns Grodd criticism from Aquaman and Black Adam - both respectable rulers and reliable protectors of their kingdoms. When Grodd is fatally wounded, he admits that he wanted to turn on Brainiac as well, which deems him not loyal to anyone.
The other superheroes and villains on the other hand stand by their leaders, which makes Grodd the most egotistical character in the game. Unaware of his own insignificance, he suffers defeat. This is once again proof that one should never stand alone, but focus on team goals instead.
By rejecting loyalty, he rejects the basic idea behind the name of his organization - The Society. The Society only pretends to embrace very different individuals united under a common goal, as instead, their unity is illusory. Everyone is focused on enforcing his own agenda, which is clearly not how a good society works.
The name of the group should be therefore interpreted as ironic, because it's only intended to underline the opposition to 'the Regime', not actually signifying a bigger idea.
