Insomniac's Spider-Man 2: Every CONFIRMED Detail We Know

5. Harry Is The New Venom

While calling Harry the new Venom may be something of a stretch, it's clear that he's suspended in a symbiote and that he's aware of his surroundings. The precedent for a villainous turn is there as well, with almost every single interpretation of Spider-Man having depicted the character's fall to becoming the new Green Goblin (616 continuity, as well as in the Raimi films), Hobgoblin (the Ultimate Spider-Man comic), or even Venom himself (the Ultimate Spider-Man cartoon).

Harry's story was one of the game's most fascinating elements, and it's clear that the unspoken history shared between Pete, MJ and Harry is a really powerful one. Reconciling the nostalgia for Spidey's teenage years with him becoming an adult is one of the game's most enduring themes, and Harry's reemergence is sure to make those two worlds collide in dramatic fashion.

What's unclear is whether or not the symbiote has bonded with Harry. It's certainly in the same tank, and it reacts to Norman's touch, but it's not fully enveloped the younger Osborn in the way most would usually expect to. Add to that the fact we're still yet to discern whether or not the suit is alien in origin (Insomniac could just be following the manmade origin from Ultimate Spider-Man), and the only thing we do know is that it's there to keep Harry alive, along with whatever the green goo actually is too.

Content Producer/Presenter

WhatCulture's very own resident movie guy, Ewan has been working in the content creation biz for over 10 years now, having started as a freelance contributor to WhatCulture Gaming all the way back in 2015. After graduating with a First-Class Honours in History from Northumbria University in 2017 (where he won a prize for a totally killer dissertation on the Watergate years), Ewan took on the role of Comics Editor at WhatCulture and quickly developed WhatCulture Comics into one of the biggest superhero-focused channels on YouTube. He followed this with a brief hiatus at Screen Rant in 2021, where he worked across the Gaming and Film sections as a writer and editor, before returning to WhatCulture as a Senior Content Producer / Presenter in 2023. He started his own podcast, We Love Dad Movies, in 2022, and has contributed several written pieces to the Eisner-nominated comics website Shelfdust as well. In his current role, Ewan incorporates his love of cinema, comic books, and history into written pieces and video essays for WhatCulture's Film & TV channel, as well as WhatCulture Gaming and WhatCulture Horror, with a particular focus on nineties-era Dad Movies, old school Westerns, and Golden Age Hollywood Noir. John Carpenter is his fave, and he thinks Batman Beyond should never have been cancelled. If that's your vibe, you'll probably like his stuff.
