Is GTA V The Most Anticipated Game Ever?

It's nearly here. We are now in the same month that will see the triumphant release of Grand Theft Auto: V. After five years in development, the next installment of the critically acclaimed action series will hit shelves world wide on September 17th. As excitement and anticipation peak, we are going to take a look at some other games that have had us itching to finally play. GTA:V can easily take the crown of most anticipated of the year, even with such huge titles as The Last Of Us, Bioshock: Infinite and Tomb Raider to contend with. The games launch has cast a shadow over the whole year, with other developers trying to get as far away as possible from its release date. Originally planned for a "Spring 2013" release date, Rockstar pushed it back to September, using that extra time to add some final polish, while also allowing the hype and anticipation to swell to mammoth proportions. The original release date saw a drought of games and the final release date has lead many to believe it may even affect next generation console sales, such is the enormity of GTA:V.

The question we have here is: can GTA:V make the claim for the most anticipated game of all time? This is a tricky query as we have to cast our collective minds back to the big releases of the yesteryear and try to assess the level of anticipation for each launch. It's easy to forget the excitement that lead up to launch day, once you've beaten a game and are onto the next top title. To put things into perspective let's take a look at some other games that were highly anticipated and see if they are comparable to that of GTA: V. In no particular order:
