Is Online Multiplayer Actually Good For Gaming?

god of war ascension Currently, we live in an age where developers throw in multiplayer like babies into a river. Take the upcoming God of War: Ascension, from a franchise that has always been extremely character and story oriented, we were hit with the news of a new multiplayer feature. Now, I€™ve never been a fan of GoW because firstly: I found Kratos voice unbelievably grating, and secondly: because once you€™ve decapitated one mythical creature you€™ve decapitated them all. But even I can tell that the franchise has no room for multiplayer, and is only being created because SCE Santa Monica Studio are extraordinarily nervous about their title. As Ascension is a prequel, fans and non-fans alike aren€™t going to enjoy a forced plot line therefore, aren€™t going to play it for long. So employing a multiplayer feature locks gamers in for a little extra time so DLC sales will be more favourable. Also it just means all the energy put into it wasn€™t a complete waste of time. The new Tomb Raider has the same issue as Ascension because the main protagonist is such an important part; it seems peculiar to add in random playable characters. Also, not to bang on about the Uncharted likeness but€. Yeah, it looks painfully similar, though that€™s another problem in itself. We have begun to be complacent; we enjoy playing through the same experiences over and over again because we€™re frightened of anything new. Also, it doesn€™t help the matter when developers are terrified of mixing up the formula because they fear something catastrophic would happen if they added in a little originality. Of course, there is a massive problem with originality in singleplayer today, but that€™s another article. Finally, DRM €“ Digital Rights Management €“ which I€™ve spoken about before is a massive problem with online gaming. Not only because it€™s keeping a watch on who€™s playing, but because it€™s sneaking into singleplayer terrain like a homeless man into your bed. What I fear is every title will force players to log in to play whether they€™re playing multiplayer or not. And, all that€™s going to achieve is making individuals €“ like myself €“ find ways around it; or just screw this whole gaming thing and take up a new hobby like stamping a clown to death. Consequently, the question is: Is Online Multiplayer Actually Good for Gaming? In my four-eyes, no. As far as I can tell all online gaming has done is shed light on the horrific human condition, and support everything I€™ve ever said about our unpleasant race. It€™s also shown these big multinational companies that fanboys desperately fight to defend, in no way shape or form; trust their customers and would rather install a camera tracking you as you play. Making particularly sure you€™re not up to anything cheeky like inviting your friend over to join in. They haven€™t bought the game; they don€™t have the right to play! Then the camera€™s lasers start firing pew pew pew pew and we€™re all dead. I know this is an unoriginal quote now-a-days, but it does spring to mind because I hate the human race so. It also demonstrates the technology people smarter than me build, is actually making things worse for this industry. €œI fear the day that technology will surpass our human interaction. The world will have a generation of idiots€ €“ Albert EinsteinLike this article? Let us know in the comments section below.
