Is Resident Evil 8 At Trouble At Capcom?

Despite having been in development since 2016, Resi 8 has shuffled into some major problems.

Right now, it feels absolutely great to be a long-time fan of the Resident Evil video game franchise.

On the back of HD do-overs for Resident Evil and Resident Evil 2, there’s a similar, shiny HD freshen-up on the way for the beloved Resident Evil 3: Nemesis. But for those eagerly awaiting Resident Evil 8, that game seems to have run into a bit of a snag.

Courtesy of the usually reliable AestheticGamer, Resident Evil 8 in its current form is actually being scrapped. Well, technically, it's already been scrapped. Having been in development since 2016, the development of Resi 8 was reportedly rebooted about six or seven months ago.

The game was first put on hold by Capcom in 2017 in order to focus on other projects – such as the aforementioned RE2 and further DLC material for the pants-fillingly brilliant Resident Evil 7 – but now this latest story claims that Resident Evil 8 was taken back to the drawing board last June or July.

If true, this means that the game in its present form is technically not even a year along in its development, despite work starting on the project four years ago.

While some assets and elements of the original plans for Resident Evil 8 can be carried over into this new version of the game, this all means that even a loose idea of when to expect Resident Evil 8 is up in the air right now.

Thankfully for those itching to get their next Resident Evil fix, Resident Evil 3: Nemesis and its glossy new HD sheen will arrive on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One April 3rd.
