Just Cause 3 Hands-On Review: 7 Explosive New Details

2. The Driving Still Sucks

I've mentioned it before, but I was hoping that maybe I was driving around in the wrong vehicles during my first time playing Just Cause 3, or that the driving mechanics would've been tweaked since then to be more fluid. Sadly, neither of those things is the case. No matter what car you're in, whenever you're driving it feels like the steering wheel only rotates about 90 degrees each way, which is particularly precarious on Medici's many winding mountain roads. The first mission in the game, Welcome Home, starts off excitingly enough, with Rico standing on the wing of a small plane taking out SAMs. You then land on the edge of a large cavern (of which there are plenty in the game), and help Mario escape from some government troops in a 4x4. The first couple of times I tried this mission I drove straight off a cliff; I was quite happy to do this considering a wingsuit/parachute combo is a much more effective means of transport than a car, but the hapless Mario didn't feel the same way. After a couple of attempts, I eventually ploughed through multiple enemy vehicles to safety, but the experience cast a dampener on the game's opening mission. Here's hoping that later missions in the game eschew the need for road vehicles.
