Kid Icarus Uprising - Review Round-Up

Nintendo looks set to score another success with its reinvention of NES classic Kid Icarus for the 3DS.

As Nintendo's first release for the 3DS in 2012, anticipation is sky high for Kid Icarus Uprising. Despite being a sequel to a mostly forgotten franchise (its last entry was a whopping twenty-one years ago on the GameBoy) the stylish shooter has drawn interest for its mix of classic platforming and on-rails shooting. Taking on the role of angelic series protagonist Pit, you'll explore numerous worlds and confront large monsters in order to stop the evil Medusa. Reviews have been largely positive, with many critics praising the unique control scheme and the visually stunning art style. Not everyone is as impressed however, with a particularity damning review from the folks over at Destructoid. Here's a handy round-up of choice nuggets from a pick of Kid Icaurus Uprising reviews, with our own full review of the game coming soon. Nintendo World Report - 9.5 "Kid Icarus: Uprising is jam packed with content, and outside of the control issues, is an amazing game. The 21-year wait for a new Kid Icarus game was completely worth it, because this is one of the craziest and most original games released by Nintendo in a while." Official Nintendo Magazine - 91% "Deeper than most home console titles and more content-packed than any other 3DS game yet released. Pit might've been sorry to keep us waiting, but this was a wait worth every second." Eurogamer - 9/10 "This is a lithe, sharp, focused game that rewards skill, punishes stupidity and prizes high scores in a way that none of the publisher's output has dared to for the past five years." GamesTM - 9/10 "Super Smash Bros. director Masahiro Sakurai has placed his own personal stamp on the experience, delivering an outstanding single-player campaign, as well as an exemplary multiplayer offering that highlights the 3DS as a real contender in the online space." Nintendo Life - 9/10 "Kid Icarus: Uprising is one of the most attractive, exhilarating, entertaining and outrageously fun titles so far on 3DS. While Mario has recently brought his style of gaming bliss to the handheld, Uprising provides a substantial amount of content, its own brand of adrenaline pumping set pieces and wonderful humour" IGN - 8.5 "Kid Icarus Uprising is yet another stellar entry in the 3DS's growing library. Much like Masahiro Sakurai's Super Smash Bros. series, Uprising is not without its flaws - but you'll be too busy having fun to notice too much." PocketGamer - 8/10 "Kid Icarus: Uprising doesn't dispense with the quirky charms of its past. But the series surfaces from a lengthy slumber refreshed, invigorated, and as good as you fans could hope." GameInformer - 7/10 "Kid Icarus: Uprising is a series of good ideas that ultimately suffer from its poor controls. There€™s a lot to do in the game, and more importantly, I felt compelled to do all of it" Destructoid - 5/10 "Kid Icarus: Uprising is equal parts tremendous and terrible, with a fine line clearly separating the two distinct territories. Unfortunately, since each stage ends on a sour note, the overall emotion one gains is that of bitter disappointment. It's a game that repeatedly starts strong and ends despicably, and as much as I want to adore it, I ended every session cursing its name." http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w5M8WdnltnY Kid Icarus Uprising is released on the 23rd of March for 3DS.
