Kingdom Hearts 3: 8 Ups & 4 Downs

The final chapter of the Xehanort Saga put under the microscope.

Kingdom Hearts III
Square-Enix

Kingdom Hearts 3 has finally been in our hands for a good amount of time now, which means hardcore fans have had the time to really give their opinion on the game.

For something that so many fans have been waiting so long for, it's fair to say that Kingdom Hearts 3 has had a lot of expectations put upon it.

After all, it's been 13 years since Kingdom Hearts 2 released, and the possibilities for Disney worlds have only got bigger.

Combine this with the evolution of the Kingdom Hearts story, and you've got a game that really has a lot to do. You're not only finishing a whole saga's worth of story and background, you're setting up for the future of the series and trying to live up to a decade of hype.

Put simply, this is a game for fans.

Although the game has seemingly divided the Kingdom Hearts community on the story, the general agreement is that the game can be great fun.

There's much more to it than that though, as Kingdom Hearts 3 is a dense game that is full of things to do and look at.

Let's dive right in and get the bad news out of the way first.

12. Down: Cliffhanger Ending

Kingdom Hearts III
Square Enix

When you consider how long fans have been waiting for Kingdom Hearts 3, it's really a shame that it had to end on a cliffhanger.

We won't be going into spoiler detail here, but there are some key aspects to Kingdom Hearts 3's ending that are clearly being saved for future entries into the series. If you've finished the game you know what we mean.

Whilst we're more than happy to have more Kingdom Hearts in our lives, it feels a little bit cheap to make it so obvious and in a way that so many people are going to be upset about. This is the end of a saga, and something people have been waiting particularly long for as well.

It's not like the whole ending was leading up to this either, as the cliffhanger elements of the story really only happen in the last minute of the ending and the epilogue.

It's a shame because it really does leave a sour taste in your mouth when the credits roll.
