The world as we know it in the Last of Us 2 effectively ended on Outbreak Day on September 26th, 2013. As such, that means that things we take for granted wouldn't have been produced after that time.

If you look closely around the environment, you'll find that Naughty Dog has ensured that everything lines up time-wise. There are several points during the game where you'll see things which reference the date (for example, the employee of the month chart in the supermarket).

There's also the fact that you can find games and consoles from pre-2013 and you if you look at any calendars on the walls, you'll also find that they're all from 2013 too. Some of them show months after Outbreak Day - apparently survivors of the apocalypse still kept their calendars up-to-date, or it took a long time for the outbreak to spread to some parts of America.

Many of the calendars also have further use such as expanding on stories within collectables or for giving subtle hints to codes used to crack safes, so it's really cool that Naughty Dog ensured all the calendars lined up with the exact date Outbreak Day went down.
