Legend Of Zelda: Ranking Every Ganon From Worst To Best
2. Ocarina Of Time
Ocarina Of Time changed the Zelda franchise forever. It was the first excursion into the third dimension and the first to dip deep into the mythology (generating an incredibly complex timeline in the process). One of its biggest advances, though, was in the depiction of Ganon.
Previously a bestial pig-like demon, Ocarina debuted Ganondorf, the human (or rather Gerudo) form of the villain. In creating Ganondorf, the Zelda antagonist was given the scope for a far more creative and engrossing backstory. His motives in Ocarina are still pretty basic - he’s a greedy, evil man who wants to take over Hyrule - but the fact that there’s a quasi-human face behind these evil deeds makes them all the more impactful. The battle itself is one of the best, too, with Link pitting his powers against Ganondorf followed by the monstrous Ganon incarnation.
Ocarina’s depiction of Ganon has been the pacesetter for the series following its release, and while other instalments have had more exciting fights or more interesting back stories, the first 3D variation will remain one of the series’ high points.
