Life Is Strange: Before The Storm Episode 1 Review - 7 Ups & 2 Downs

3. A Decently Long First Episode

Life Is Strange Prequel
Deck Nine

While Before the Storm will only have three episodes (not counting the bonus epilogue), as opposed to the first game's five, it seems you will still certainly get some bang for your buck in terms of playtime.

Something episodic adventure games are often criticized for is either that episodes can be too short, or that not enough happened to get your money's worth. Luckily, Awake does not fall under this category, as it's a fairly meaty chapter in Chloe's story.

The episode is pretty long in terms of its main narrative alone, which covers a lot of intriguing, story-related ground, as well as ample time to take it all in. However, for those who like to stray from the beaten path, examine everything they can (including Chloe's moments of reflection, her journal entries, and texts that give you some extra insight to the lore), and partake in the optional side objectives (like those mentioned in the previous entry), there's even more quality playtime to be had.

If you're one of those players, episode one of Before the Storm will give you nearly three entire hours of game time.
