Madden NFL 22 Review: 4 Ups & 5 Downs

4. Commentary

Madden 22
EA Sports

Man, change this.

Brandon Gaudin and Charles Davis are as charming as ever, but their banter is seriously old hat now. This player leapt right into the options menu to turn their in-game commentary off after just one exhibition snap. That makes it sound like the comms are crap. They're not, but they're definitely boring after years of same-y dialogue.

EA have to start thinking about adding in a secondary duo for the Playoffs or Super Bowl. Hearing Gaudin welcome viewers to the action using the same lines is dull, and it actually tricks one into thinking they're playing the exact same game as last year. Maybe there's a joke in there somewhere about annual sports games ("maybe"?!).

Someone give Tony Romo a call, for crying out loud. Hearing him break down key plays in championship games would add so much to Madden, and it's that statistical analysis that's totally missing. Games also move fast if you skip scenes in between plays, and the Gaudin/Davis duo never keeps up.
