Magic: The Gathering - 10 Most Powerful Mono-White Cards In 2020 Standard

9. Daxos, Blessed By The Sun

Heliod Magic
Wizards of the Coast

Being both an enabler and an excellent early drop in life gain decks earns Daxos his spot here. Coming down on turn two and being buffed later by other white permanents Daxos can quickly become a wall that is very difficult for aggressive decks, and sometimes even some mid-range decks, to get around. That is all while he is incrementally gaining you life as your creatures either enter the battlefield or die.

While more than a bit of a non-bo with Hushbringer means this card is often one of the best two drops you can play in the life gain deck. Filling the roll of blocker of early creatures and enable for your later plays, such as Ajani's Pridemates, the deck functions much better with Daxos on the field. Not to mention that Daxos' two devotion to white is no irrelevant as the deck will usually play a copy or two of Heliod.

Unless life gain is the main strategy of your deck and it is mainly white you may not want to include Daxos. However, if gaining life helps you on your way to reducing your opponents life total to zero sounds like your kind of thing you'd be doing yourself a huge favour by including Daxos in your two drop slow.
