Magic: The Gathering: 10 Most Powerful One-Mana Creatures In Standard Right Now
Which first-turn plays will help you win your games?
Magic the Gathering has been around for the better part of three decades and over the years there have been a lot of incredible and insane one-mana creatures. Wizards of the Coast have done their best to address the cards which break the game, though older formats still exist with access to the insanity, and they're extremely fun to play. That being said, this doesn't mean that the one-mana creatures of today's standard format are anything to scoff at.
With Ikoria recently coming out, MTG is currently undergoing a great and diverse meta, with new techs popping up every day as players scramble to discover what's powerful. The trend continues on as the spells of the past remain more powerful than most while today's creature's outshine many of their fore-bearers. And of course, a great deal of the game is determined by the early plays, making the entries on this list some of the most important cards in any given deck. A few of these will undoubtedly survive in other formats for years to come.
So, with all of that in mind, let's delve into the world of standard and see what people are playing.
10. Arboreal Grazer
With every set comes the inevitable ramp cards for those top-heavy green decks which like to rush to the late game. While perhaps not as powerful as some other ramp tools from the past years of MTG, Arboreal Grazer acts as a staple in any green deck.
Its entry ability means that no matter what happens on the following turn, as long as you have a land in your hand it’s going to get some value. Furthermore, unlike other ramp cards, Arboreal Grazer does not come with the restriction of a set type of land or even basic land, therefore it can allow you to put anything into play including the tricolour lands which already enter tapped by default.
While its lack of power makes it unable to attack, its 3 toughness as well as the flying keyword means it’ll block any early game threats including those from the air, making it an all round solid card.
