After first being mentioned in February 2018, Mario Kart is finally available on iOS and Android - at least in a capacity other than emulation.

Something of a divisive title thanks to Nintendo designing mobile games as drastically stripped down versions of their console counterparts, at least when you're pinging shells off fellow racers and hearing Mario shout "Yippee!" as he boosts off a ramp, it feels closer to home than the threadbare Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp.

There's also the immediate takeaway of, well, it's Mario Kart on your phone, but as you'll have picked up scouring the game's reception, Mario Kart Tour makes some drastic changes to the established formula, and word of mouth is the only thing that'll make it all okay again.

Mario Kart Tour may be at the centre of a major backlash over subscription fees and monetisation methods (which are pretty damn horrific, in fairness), but if you want to get the most out of it as a GAME, look no further.

Here's to the free local multiplayer mode being added sooner rather than later, but for now, let's enjoy easy-access Mario Kart in the palm of your hand.
