Mass Effect 3 Tops March US Sales Figures

Mass Effect 3 to nobodies surprise was the top selling game in the United States for the month of March.

Mass Effect 3 to nobodies surprise was the top selling game in the United States for the month of March. Unfortunately, because some publishers don't want sales numbers to be officially announced in case their game is a bomb, I have no official number of how many total units were sold for all top ten games in March. Some companies are more open than others like Nintendo did announce that "Kid Icarus Uprising sold more than 135,000 copies" in the US. However, the NPD did state that Mass Effect 3 far outsold Mass Effect 2 in the same release window:
"Mass Effect 3 sold more than twice as much as did Mass Effect 2 during its introductory month in January 2010."
Even though Mass Effect 3 sales were good that doesn't mean the month of March was good to video games sales overall; according to the NPD:
"U.S. Total video game sales declined 25 percent year-over-year from $1.47 billion to $1.1 billion."
So unfortunately the video game industry is still in a drought but then again these numbers never take into account things like used sales and digital distribution sales (Journey was released in March to great sales). Finally the NPD also noted that for the month of March the Xbox 360 was the best selling console in the US, moving 371,000 units last month. Here is the complete top ten list for the month of March: Mass Effect 3 (360, PS3, PC)** Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City (360, PS3)** MLB 12: The Show (PS3, PSV) 3 Sony (Corp) NBA 2K12 (360, PS3, Wii, PSP, PC, PS2) SSX 2012 (360, PS3) Street Fighter X Tekken (PS3, 360) Mario Party 9 (Wii) Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 (360, PS3, Wii, PC) Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja (360, PS3) Major League Baseball 2K12 (360, PS3, Wii, NDS, PSP, PC, PS2) **(includes CE, GOTY editions, bundles, etc. but not those bundled with hardware) My guess is that April will also be a down month because very few major titles are being released this month. In fact I don't think there are many games at all that are being released in April, the two major ones Witcher 2 and Xenoblade Chronicles are previously released games.
