Mass Effect 4: 10 Essential Things It Must Get Right

6. A Continuation Of Your Own Story (In Some Form)

Speaking of intelligent nods to the past, we're looking to both EA and Bioware to find a way to make the story choices from the past carry over to the new generation. Not everything has to make the leap of course, but one of the defining aspects of Mass Effect has always been your agency within the game's world. It's part of the reason that ending was so terrible, but on the other hand it's given all of our individual Shepards hugely varying origins, intents and personalities. It would be a huge shame if the only memory throughout the ME universe of your entire story arc was through the major beats we all shared like stopping Saren or taking down the Collectors. We want to hear about "That time Shepard chose Ashley over Kaiden on Virmire" or "How he couldn't just let Mordin go without some epic last words." It's this sense of continuity that even now makes for one of the best experiences you can have from a string of titles, and it gives the franchise a sense of cultivated personality completely unique to such a cared-for universe.
