Mass Effect 5 Wishlist: 10 Major Risks Bioware MUST Take
4. Paragon & Renegade
Paragon & Renegade is a staple of Mass Effect. You can criticise it, sure, but it is unmistakably a huge part of the game. It needs to stay.
The arguments against Paragon & Renegade are that it can be a bit of a restrictive system. As you get points for leaning one way or the other, it's difficult to have a fully balanced playthrough.
For example, being middle of the road in ME2 means picking between Jack & Miranda, as well as Tali & Legion for loyalty, which also puts romantic options at risk. A full scale Paragon or Renegade can keep them all, but play safe and you miss out.
This system means you might not be fully getting into the whole 'role play' part of an RPG. The complete lack of Paragon & Renegade's importance to the trilogy's ending came in for criticism too.
Andromeda ditched it for a personality response system, where you could be logical, emotional, etc. That was just Dragon Age's with some new paint though, and felt completely out of place. Returning to Paragon and Renegade won't be a backwards step, but instead a course correction.
