Mass Effect 5 Wishlist: 10 Major Risks Bioware MUST Take

5. Playable Races

Bioware

This one shouldn’t really be a risk, given it’s a highly requested feature (far and away the most requested, in fact) and already works in Mass Effect’s sister game, Dragon Age. However, given that Mass Effect has always factored in your humanity as part of some major plot points, offering up more options feels like a bit of a risk.

It’s the best kind of risk, though. Implementing this feature gives them an instant win, and as long as it’s planned from the start, any negative effects can be easily mitigated.

Asari, Turian and Quarian squadmates are always popular, so you feel like those three are dead certs, with question marks over some of the others.

Dragon Age allows for four, with Human, Elf, Dwarf and Qunari, so that doesn’t feel beyond Mass Effect’s capabilities. Other games offer far more (Skyrim, for example), but there it’s all about character abilities and perks, with less emphasis on the personal stories that come with each race.

Mass Effect has allowed players to be different races previously, though only online. Having it in fully fledged single player would wash away the funk from Andromeda.
