Mass Effect Andromeda: 10 New Gameplay Features That Will Change Everything
9. The Jetpack
Nothing sells me on a game quite like a jetpack. Although it’s become a little like video game snake oil over the past few years, its inclusion in the Halo series and Star Wars Battlefront genuinely made the combat in those games feel more fast-paced and unpredictable.
Andromeda’s Pathfinder can equip a ‘jump-jet’, which will allow for quick dodging, high jumping, as well as hovering. If Andromeda is trying to make players venture out of cover more and make use of the entire battlefield, allowing them to vertically ascend it is a good start, and being able to duck and weave around enemies should hopefully make for a less static combat experience.
There’s still no word on how this will work in the game’s barely seen multiplayer, which took on the form of a surprisingly moreish co-op horde mode in Mass Effect 3, and will hopefully return in Andromeda. Jetpacks present a tricky balancing issue, though; you don’t want 75% of your player-base hanging over the field of play, breaking everyone else’s enjoyment.
