20. 'Golden Worlds' Are A Bust!

Next we have a beautiful shot of the Tempest approaching a ringed planet with a literal golden aura surrounding it. The cinematography of this game has been showcased beautifully with the visuals looking absolutely magical.

But, there is a problem.

“None of the Golden Worlds panned out” says the narrator. “They’re a bust.”

A lot of people have complained that this has given away a spoiler for the story. Now depending on when this piece of information is given to you, it may make the first half an hour of the game feel a little redundant. But if a key component of the game is to explore and find suitable worlds, then having a Golden World that fits that criteria right from the off would rob you of that opportunity.

It also sets up the stakes as you are against the clock to find your people safe harbour with the looming threat of the Kett on your tail. But more on them later.

Mass Effect Andromeda - Volcanic Planet
Bioware

A montage demonstrates the point further with multple shots from different planets. The first being the volanic landscape that definetly doesn’t look like a good place to call home.

Mass Effect Andromeda - Settlement
Bioware

Seems that they did find somewhere to call home? Or at least touch down.

This shot is a bit counter productive but it clearly shows signs of a settlement, with the Tempest just over the horizon and the Nomad parked out front. Ryder, Cora, Peebee and Liam can all be seen and because there are four of you, rather than your typical three, it’s likely this a HUB world that you can walk around, talk to the locals and get your mission details before heading out.

These worlds are where you’ll have to make friends and solve their problems to order to build settlements and further increase your resources.

Mass Effect Andromeda - Jungle Planet
Bioware

We also get a brief look at another jungle-festered planet, with Liam and Drack on your flanks. This gives you an in-game taste of the variety of places you’ll be able to explore in Andromeda.
