Mass Effect Movie: 10 Ways To Make It Not Suck

2. Kill Some Characters

Unfortunately during your journey through Bioware's epic trilogy you'll leave more than a few bodies in your wake. Some of these are criminals who probably deserve nothing more than being one of them, or aliens who try to shoot you to death - but some of your companions will also lose their lives depending on your actions. In the movie, there's no reason why this trend can't continue. Commander Shepard, or whichever character we're journeying with, should have to make the trickiest of decisions, and his/her companions should constantly be in jeopardy. When we played the climactic moments of Mass Effect 2, battling through the Collector base on the aptly-titled Suicide Mission, many of us haven't felt tension like that in games before or since. It felt like at any moment your companions could die and - thanks to the character development of the games - losing one of them had the emotional impact it should have. In the movie, there should be elements where the death of a character has the same weight it did in the game. Without the plot development and genuine feel of threat established within the gaming franchise, there'd be little reason to get emotionally involved. Plus killing off the characters would be a great way to shock those who will be watching the franchise as a movie without experiencing the games. Just make sure it's done right.
