Mass Effect: The FPS That Never Was

News lands that before Mass Effect 3 had it’s third person multiplayer component there was a first person shooter in the works developed by BioWare Montreal.

First noticed by Kotaku yesterday, it€™s come to light that before Mass Effect 3 had it€™s third person multiplayer component there was a first person shooter in the works developed by BioWare Montreal. Entitled Mass Effect Team Assault the project was intended to increase the scope of the Mass Effect universe by introducing team based shooter gameplay somewhere between Unreal Tournament and Battlefield 1943. The prototype was in development for roughly four months in 2010 and was likely to have been released as a downloadable title, before it was decided that the idea could be adapted elsewhere, thus eventually becoming ME3€™s multiplayer mode Galaxy at War. The news comes from The Final Hours of Mass Effect 3, an app which outlines lots of other exclusive insider info courtesy of Geoff Knightley, a journalist who was given unprecedented access to BioWare HQ and Mass Effect 3 during development. Below you can see some images of the prototype shooter but the app is also available for purchase here.
