2. The Biggest Of Bosses
Something in the trailer annoyed me. I don't think it intentionally set out to do that, but that's what ended up happening. In the trailer which shows Raiden go up against a Metal Gear Ray and turn it into scrap metal. This is obviously supposed to show off how bad ass and totally unstoppable super Raiden is supposed to be. Except I felt cheated. In the MGS games, Metal Gears are the pinnacle of challenge and the mighty. In the original MGS, upon realising you, the player had to take down Rex on your own with a piddly little rocket launcher was daunting. In MGS 2, taking on a horde of Rays was exhausting. Now we have Raiden cutting them up like it ain't no thing, and suddenly some of the most fearsome adversaries in gaming have been irrevocably cheapened. This is ok though. It gives Platinum Games an excuse to create bigger, more awe inspiring enemies to take down. Metal Gear Rising is already an over the top game. Men a sliced more ways than a pizza, and the blood flows freely. There's nothing stopping the developers to create even crazier bosses that defy imagination. If the over the top nature of the game is actively pursued we could get one of the most fun hack n slash games this generation.
