4. Re-Playability
The Metal Gear Solid games always delivered the goods when it came to playing them over and over again. Back in the day we didn't need trophies to get the most out of our games, but in fairness it did help if the game was excellent. Harder difficulties, no kill play-throughs, collecting all of the little secrets hidden away from the world. The MGS series always gave the gamer value for money. So it's only right that we should expect the same from Metal Gear Rising. We're talking challenge maps and time trials in the same vein as the VR missions from previous games, side missions, trophies and gameplay mechanics that make the player adopt different play styles that they would normally overlook. Of course to help matters along, the game needs to have some fine gameplay mechanics to help people go back after their initial run. Then combat needs to be engaging and rewarding, without becoming repetitive, which is easier said than done, but Platinum Games have a wonderful back catalogue of excellent titles to put to rest any niggling doubts one might have. A combo system, skill tree and upgrade mechanic would all be welcome additions.
