4. Solidus Snake
Similar to his brother Liquid, Solidus was chained to his genetics and the history of where he comes from. This drives Solidus throughout the events of MGS1 as the President and later in MGS2 as he seeks to destroy the control of The Patriots.
Solidus was a part of the Les Enfant Terribles project created by The Patriots. Unlike his brothers, Solidus was in complete control of the Patriots since childhood and groomed him from early combat to the U.S. Presidency. Knowing he cannot father children due to The Patriots sterilizing him, Solidus wanted to father a legacy as a surrogate child. With the Patriots in control, however, this would be impossible; his revolt was inevitable.
Solidus is a complicated character grappling with lineage, legacy, fatherhood, and the fear of being forgotten. His vision of dismantling The Patriots and disentangling the world from its control, while not completely altruistic (i.e. for clout), was with the intention of creating a free world.
His predictions of a perpetual war economy and SOP (Sons of the Patriots) - a battle system consisting of nanomachines to monitor soldiers, create ID locks, and ultimately suppressing their emotions - were realized a few years later, and make his attempt at stopping The Patriots all the more tragic with his death.
