Metal Gear Solid V: 10 Plot Points It Needs To Tie Up

9. Les Enfants Terribles

Les Enfants Terrible At the moment, the plot of Metal Gear Solid V is somewhat confusing. Since the title is split between a prologue - Ground Zeroes - and the main game - The Phantom Pain - it is important to realise that the time frame between these two events may have serious references to extremely important plot points in Metal Gear canon. Les Enfants Terribles, a genetic project that spawned Liquid and Solid Snake (and later also Solidus Snake), occurred around 1971. Major Zero, fearing Big Boss wanted to split away from the Patriots, hatched a plan to steal the legendary soldier's DNA and use it to create genetic copies that had all of the characters of Big Boss. He seized this opportunity when Big Boss was placed in a coma after a battle we've yet to see. What we do know about the Phantom Pain is that Big Boss awakens from a coma in a facility around 1984. During the nine years Big Boss is in this coma, could this be the time when Zero received Big Bosses' DNA and created Solid/Liquid Snake? If it is, and Big Boss is awakening from a coma after years, that could well mean we end up seeing an extremely young version of either of these characters. Of course, this coma might be entirely separate from the coma that Zero used to steal the DNA, but it seems somewhat unlikely at this point. Here's hoping we get to see Les Enfants Terribles with our own eyes and how it all began.
